Attention all moms with primary custody!
With Father’s Day just around the corner on the 2nd weekend in June, here’s a scheduling reminder and tips for making the day special:
Father’s Day Possession Schedule Reminder for Moms: Since Father’s Day falls on the 2nd weekend in June, fathers with standard possession orders in Texas will receive four consecutive weekends of visitation. Remember, you can break up those visitation periods to best suit your family’s needs and schedules by designating your weekend period of possession by April 15. Check out this quick video tip from Managing Attorney Jennifer Ilarraza:
Plan Ahead: Take some time to discuss with your children how they would like to celebrate their dad on Father’s Day. Whether it’s making a homemade card, planning a special outing, or simply spending quality time together, involving them in the planning process can make the day even more meaningful.
Encourage Involvement: While you might be the primary caregiver, Father’s Day is a perfect opportunity for children to celebrate their dad. Encourage your children to express their love and appreciation for their dad in their own unique ways.
Be Supportive: Remember that Father’s Day might bring up mixed emotions for you and your children. Be patient, understanding, and supportive of their feelings, whether they’re excited, sad, or somewhere in between.
Celebrate In Your Own Way: If the relationship with your children’s dad is strained or if he’s not present, consider celebrating Father’s Day in a way that feels right for your family. It could be honoring other male role models in your children’s lives or simply focusing on the love and connection within your family unit.
Self-Care: Lastly, don’t forget to take care of yourself too! Balancing the responsibilities of primary custody can be challenging, so make sure to carve out some time for self-care and relaxation.
Let’s make this Father’s Day a memorable and love-filled celebration for all families, no matter their unique circumstances.
